Nigeria Police Ordered to Prosecute Unauthorized Roadblocks

KOKO Business | People, Ideas, Markets, Growth | Nigeria Police Ordered to Prosecute Unauthorized Roadblocks

The order mandated the police to arrest, detain, investigate and prosecute individuals or entities operating unauthorized roadblocks that violate the Taxes and Levies (Approved List for Collection) Act.

The association claimed that unauthorized revenue collectors and highway obstructions add extra costs for truckers and businesses transporting goods nationwide.

These costs impact the economy as transportation is integral to the pricing of products moving from producers to markets.

The Joint Revenue Board had previously requested closer collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force in March 2026 to enforce the nationwide ban on roadblocks for tax collection.

Construction relies heavily on road-based transport to move materials like cement, steel, and equipment between manufacturers, distributors, and construction sites.

Extra charges on major transport routes can raise the delivered cost of construction materials, especially for projects far from manufacturing centers or ports.
