NLNG Dividends Dispute Intensifies Between Presidency and Makinde

KOKO Business | People, Ideas, Markets, Growth | NLNG Dividends Dispute Intensifies Between Presidency and Makinde

The presidency affirmed that the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) has distributed approximately $21.5 billion in dividends to the federation over the past 25 years.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, refuted Governor Makinde’s allegations, stating that the figures contradict established revenue-sharing agreements and historical dividend payments.

Makinde previously claimed that NLNG dividends would not be released until after the 2027 elections, raising concerns about the prioritization of political timelines over public interest.

Onanuga dismissed Makinde’s assertion that the Federal Government is withholding NLNG dividends, labeling it as false and advising its disregard.

A one-time distribution of N250 billion to each of Nigeria’s 36 states would total N9.0 trillion, excluding the Federal Government, the FCT, and the 774 local councils.
