NNPC To Assess Fuel Discount After 30 Days

Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele has stated that the Federal Government’s 30-day fuel discount initiative does not represent a return to petrol subsidy. The government plans to evaluate the discount after 30 days before determining its next course of action.

Oyedele provided this clarification during an interview with the BBC’s Madina Maishanu in Bangkok, Thailand, following a rise in global crude oil prices. The increase in prices has led to higher petrol pump costs, prompting the government to seek temporary relief for consumers.

The discount, initially set at N66 per litre, was introduced to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary. The government requested the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) to transform this promotional offer into temporary support for motorists and commuters.
