Opposition Parties Challenge APC Financial Edge Ahead of 2027 Elections

Opposition parties express financial concerns ahead of the 2027 general elections, claiming the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) holds a significant financial advantage. Economic hardship and fears of political retaliation are deterring potential donors from backing rival parties.
The Electoral Act 2026 increases presidential campaign expenditure limits from N5bn to N10bn and governorship limits from N1bn to N3bn. The National Assembly justified the review, citing inflation and rising costs for advertising, logistics, and campaign operations as reasons the previous limits were unrealistic.
Opposition groups plan to mobilize voters through grassroots efforts, town halls, digital campaigns, and voluntary contributions to offset financial constraints without matching the APC’s resources. They argue the higher expenditure ceilings exacerbate competition challenges for underfunded parties despite the NDC’s claim that financial advantage does not guarantee electoral success.
