Presidency Disputes Makinde’s NLNG Dividend Claims

KOKO Business | People, Ideas, Markets, Growth | Presidency Disputes Makinde's NLNG Dividend Claims

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State alleged that President Bola Tinubu is withholding ₦250 billion in NLNG dividends intended for states until after the 2027 elections. The presidency denied these claims, stating that NLNG had paid less than $3 billion in dividends since Tinubu took office.

Makinde asserted that each state was owed ₦250 billion and that the Federal Government had already spent the money. The presidency, through its Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, dismissed these allegations as false and urged the public to disregard them.

The presidency emphasized that the claim of withholding NLNG dividends was unfounded and that the Federal Government had not delayed the release of funds. The dispute highlights a disagreement over the timing and allocation of NLNG dividends.
