Roqqu Aims to Tokenize Nigerian Stock Market for Global Access

KOKO Business | People, Ideas, Markets, Growth | Roqqu Aims to Tokenize Nigerian Stock Market for Global Access

Roqqu, a Nigerian-founded cryptocurrency exchange, seeks to enable global access to the Nigerian stock market through blockchain technology. The company aims to tokenize local equities, making them available to eligible international investors.

Emmanuel Peter, Roqqu’s head of trading and markets, emphasizes that the company functions as a distribution layer rather than a replacement for the Nigerian Exchange (NGX). This approach ensures the NGX remains the primary stock exchange.

Roqqu plans to facilitate the process by allowing existing brokers to purchase shares, with authorised custodians holding them. The exchange will provide the infrastructure to issue corresponding blockchain tokens.

The initiative could eventually allow other crypto exchanges to distribute the same tokens, expanding access beyond Roqqu’s current user base.
