SEC Initiates Outreach to Address Unclaimed Dividends and Investment Records

The SEC conducted a Capital Market Awareness, Unclaimed Funds and Investor Education Outreach Programme in Lafia, Nasarawa State. During this event, the Commission urged investors to regularise investment records, adopt safer investment practices, and use available mechanisms for recovering outstanding dividends.

The SEC highlighted the enhanced e-Dividend Mandate Management System, which enables direct dividend payments to shareholders' bank accounts and allows record updates for recovering outstanding payments. Unclaimed dividends and investment assets remain a concern due to incomplete or outdated records, changed bank details, or difficulties accessing assets after a beneficiary's death.

Investors were encouraged to maintain accurate and updated personal and banking information with registrars and market operators to reduce challenges in dividend payments and investment claims. The SEC stressed that unclaimed funds represent legitimate savings and investments requiring strengthened processes for rightful owners to establish claims and recover assets.
