Tanzania’s Natural Gas Project Targets 40 Percent Energy Savings by 2028

The Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) will complete a Sh37.52 billion natural gas distribution project in Mtumba, Dodoma’s government city, by July 2028. This initiative could reduce energy costs for residents, government institutions, and businesses by up to 40 percent through natural gas supply for cooking, offices, hotels, and restaurants.
TPDC will also establish a dedicated compressed natural gas (CNG) filling station for vehicles under the project. Project manager Eva Swillah stated that user adoption of natural gas is essential for achieving the projected savings.
The National Southern Highlands target 2.1 million tonnes of rice production by 2030, though this goal is unrelated to the current project.
