Timor-Leste President Confirms Greater Sunrise Gas Agreements to Be Finalized Soon

Timor-Leste's president, Jose Ramos-Horta, stated that the nation will finalize agreements for the Greater Sunrise gas project within months. This announcement follows years of deadlock in the initiative, which he described as "finally happening" after prolonged procrastination.
Despite progress, significant skepticism remains about the project's commercial viability. Timor-Leste aims to develop a multi-billion-dollar liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant and domestic gas facility along the south coast, but concerns persist regarding the feasibility of piping gas from the Greater Sunrise fields to this region.
Woodside Energy, an Australian energy company with a stake in the project, recently agreed with Timor-Leste's state-owned oil and gas entity to mature and progress the Greater Sunrise plan. This collaboration is intended to establish regulatory and fiscal frameworks for resource exploration and development.
