Udenta Proposes Sovereign Commission for 2027 Elections

Professor Udenta O., a pro-democracy activist, has proposed the establishment of a Sovereign Commission for Democratic Sustainability and National Stability to address Nigeria’s political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The initiative comes amid heightened tensions and pre-election violence in some states, according to reports. Udenta emphasized that the challenge ahead of the 2027 elections goes beyond the presidential race.

Udenta argued that the commission should serve as a platform for dialogue, rather than a body of former officeholders issuing ineffective communiqués. He proposed that all political parties and their presidential candidates make seven pre-election commitments, including participation in the commission regardless of electoral outcomes.
