West Africa Fuel Pricing Disparities

Nigeria's official retail price for Premium Motor Spirit remains at N145 per litre despite regional variations. Sierra Leone holds the second lowest price in the sub-region at N279.57 per litre, while Mali reports the highest official rate of N457.17 per litre.
The West Africa sub-region averages N341.31 per litre for fuel retail, contrasting with the global average of N400.22 per litre. These differences stem from varying tax structures and subsidies applied by individual nations.
DAPPMA attributed the Nigerian pricing to NNPC's exclusive role as PMS importer since October 2017, citing current import costs of approximately N170 per litre.
All countries access identical international petroleum prices but implement distinct tax policies, resulting in divergent retail pricing across the region.
