YORA Summit 2026 Calls for Strategic Mining Policies to Boost Africa’s Resource Potential

Mining industry experts urged enhanced policy frameworks, expanded mineral exploration funding, and long-term strategic planning to harness Africa’s significant natural resources and elevate the continent’s role in the global mining sector. This call occurred during a panel at the Year of Return Africa (YORA) Summit & Expo 2026, held at Broadwalk Mall in Westlands, Nairobi, Kenya, on Wednesday.
The session, moderated by Shanel Wajera of the African Mining Chamber, included Daniel Matimu from the same organization and Stephen Kuria, who emphasized the need for multi-decadal mining strategies to overcome current barriers in transforming mineral deposits into profitable operations.
Kuria specifically stated, 'We can’t just keep working year to year,' advocating for strategic approaches that guide investment, exploration, and industrial development over extended periods.
