24 States Approve Dual Policing System Amendment

Twenty-four states have approved a constitutional amendment that establishes a dual policing system. The approval was achieved through the passage of the Constitution (Sixth Alteration) Bill, 2026, by the State Houses of Assembly.

The amendment now satisfies the constitutional requirement of two-thirds of the 36 states needed for it to move forward. This threshold was met by the approval of 24 states.

The Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill praised the State Houses of Assembly for their action and recognized the National Assembly for passing the amendment in both chambers. The amendment is now ready to be sent to the National Assembly for transmission to the President for assent.
