West Africa’s Power Transformation

A significant shift is underway across West Africa, driven by ambitious infrastructure projects. Thousands of kilometers of high voltage transmission lines are being constructed, alongside expansive multi-lane expressways and digital trading corridors. The Commission is establishing a framework for a modern borderless economy through this overhaul.
The West African Power Pool Industrial expansion is a key component of this transformation. Fragmented national grids hindered economic growth, and the Commission’s creation of a specialized arm addresses this issue. The project is focused on creating a unified electricity market, benefiting industries and utilities.
The project is designed to alleviate the bottleneck of isolated national electricity networks. Countries rich in hydroelectric potential were forced to operate as isolated power islands, increasing costs. The West African Power Pool aims to break this deadlock, fostering economic growth.
The Commission is investing heavily in new generators, reflecting a commitment to providing reliable power to communities. This investment is a significant step towards improving lives and promoting economic development.
