IMF Notes Hormuz Reopening Fails to End Energy Crisis

The International Monetary Fund stated that Strait of Hormuz reopening would not immediately resolve the global energy crisis. IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva warned Middle East disruptions could continue affecting growth and inflation even if the strait reopened.
Georgieva and Saudi Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan highlighted that damaged infrastructure and supply chain interruptions would persist despite potential conflict resolution. The IMFC meeting in Bangkok identified risks tilted to the downside for global economies.
The IMF emphasized that the 2026 Annual Meetings in Bangkok concluded with concerns over war-related shocks and rising financing pressures on vulnerable economies. Global economic risks remain elevated due to ongoing disruptions.
