YPP Proposes Fuel Subsidy Plan to Cut Costs and Inflation

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) presidential candidate Arch. Peter Agada outlined a targeted fuel subsidy scheme designed to reduce transport costs by up to 45% and lower headline inflation to 7.5% within its first year. This proposal, estimated at ₦3.2 trillion for the initial 12 months starting July 2027, aims to address current economic challenges through structured fiscal measures.
Agada emphasized that the scheme would differ from past universal subsidies by including spending caps, tiered subsidy levels, and an automatic termination clause to ensure fiscal responsibility. The plan targets daily costs of ₦11.48 billion and monthly expenditures of ₦349 billion at October 2026 price levels.
The YPP-led government, if elected, would implement this subsidy structure beginning in July 2027, with the first year's total cost projected at ₦3.20 trillion.
