Oyebade defends Tinubu’s economic reforms amid subsidy removal

Major General Adeniyi Oyebade, a former Nigerian Army General Officer Commanding 1 Mechanised Division and Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, has defended President Tinubu's economic reforms. He described the removal of fuel subsidies and foreign exchange adjustments as critical steps to prevent Nigeria from economic collapse.
Oyebade emphasized that years of economic distortions, public resource mismanagement, and ineffective national development plans under past governments necessitated these reforms. He argued that the current measures, despite short-term hardships, are essential for long-term stability and growth.
The retired general stated that subsidy removal remains one of Tinubu's most significant decisions, though implementation challenges have increased living costs. He urged Nigerians to assess the reforms within the context of decades of economic failures before the administration took office.
