Daniel Amos, Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency representative and House Committee on House Services chairman, disclosed the development. He confirmed the President’s assent to a bill upgrading the Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, to the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Kaduna.

YABATECH, established in 1947, has trained professionals in engineering, environmental studies, management, science, technology, art, and other disciplines while emphasizing practical training, entrepreneurship, and skills development. Its proposed university status could enable undergraduate and postgraduate programs, research partnerships, and closer academic-practical integration.

The Rector described the presidential assent as a significant step in YABATECH’s institutional development. He emphasized that technical and vocational education has been indispensable to national development over decades.

The Rector noted the assent as a landmark development for YABATECH, opening a new chapter in Nigeria’s educational and technological advancement. He thanked President Tinubu and the National Assembly while acknowledging contributions from the Governing Council, Management, Academic Board, staff, students, alumni, and stakeholders.

YABATECH will retain its focus on technical and vocational education while preparing for university responsibilities. The formal establishment of the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Yaba, Lagos, remains subject to implementation processes.
