The Enugu State Government claims it has identified alleged plots by opposition groups to introduce armed individuals and bandits into the state to generate fear and a false sense of insecurity prior to the 2027 general elections.

Chidiebere Onyia, the state government’s representative, disclosed these details during a press conference held at Government House in Enugu on Sunday, referencing incidents at the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) headquarters at Akanu Ibiam International Airport and the party’s state secretariat in Enugu on Saturday.

The state government’s account aligns with the Enugu State Police Command’s statement issued on Sunday, according to Onyia.

The Security Service Group (SSG) reported that a violent confrontation took place at the NDC state secretariat in the GRA district of Enugu following the shooting incident.

A 43-year-old man named Ifeanyi Nworie was shot and transported to the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Park Lane, where he received stabilization before being moved to the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Enugu for additional treatment.

Onyia denied reports that the Governor’s Chief Security Officer was present at the NDC secretariat during the shooting, stating the official was with Governor Peter Mbah at the Teachers Grassroots Movement rally at Okpara Square in Enugu at the time of the incident.
