NNPC 30-Day Petrol Discount Initiative Defended by Federal Government

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has implemented a 30-day petrol discount initiative, which the Federal Government through Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris has defended as not constituting a fuel subsidy restoration. The NNPC stated it is generating profit from the measure, though Atiku questioned whether proper board authorization was obtained.

Trade Union Congress (TUC) President Festus Osifo and Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Adewole Adeboye criticized the initiative’s limited reach, noting that NNPC retail stations account for only a fraction of national filling outlets. They argued the discount’s practical impact is constrained by this disparity.
