Hong Kong's finance chief, Paul Chan, expressed optimism about the city's economic growth despite global economic challenges. Chan highlighted Hong Kong's ability to attract global capital and support mainland Chinese firms expanding internationally.

Chan, in a blog post following the IMF and World Bank Group's annual meetings, noted that global discussions focused on AI-driven disruption and energy price volatility due to Middle East conflicts.

The IMF recently revised its 2026 GDP growth forecast for Hong Kong to 3.8 per cent, surpassing the local government's projection of 3.5 to 4.5 per cent. Chan stated that Asia's economy is expected to grow faster than the global average, despite the slowdown in global growth.
