Court to Decide Shadrack Sibiya’s Bail Status

A South African court is set to determine whether Shadrack Sibiya, the former deputy national police commissioner, will be granted bail. The court's ruling on his bail application is expected to be delivered soon.
Sibiya is scheduled to appear in the Randburg magistrate’s court on Tuesday morning, where the court will finalize its decision on his bail request.
The state has argued that releasing Sibiya on bail could compromise the prosecution of the serious charges against him, citing alleged threats against witnesses and attempts to influence a complainant.
State prosecutor Velile Makasana informed the court that the state has provided enough evidence to suggest witness intimidation or interference with police investigations is likely if Sibiya is released on bail.
Sibiya’s legal team proposed a bail amount of R20,000, asserting that the state’s case is weak and that strict bail conditions could mitigate concerns about witness interference.
