Obasanjo Criticizes Tinubu’s Economic Policies

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo expressed concerns about Nigeria's economic situation under President Bola Tinubu, stating there is no evidence of improvement. Obasanjo made these remarks during an interview at the Financial Times Africa Summit 2026 in London.
Obasanjo questioned the rationale for Tinubu's push for re-election, arguing that the economic reforms have not benefited Nigerians. He claimed the policies have impoverished the population and failed to serve their interests.
The former president criticized the administration's handling of the economy, particularly the devaluation of the naira and the removal of petrol subsidies. He said these policies have reduced purchasing power and worsened Nigeria's status as the poverty capital of the world.
