Ebola Screening Measures Urged by Nigerian Senate

The Nigerian Senate has proposed stringent screening protocols at all entry points to mitigate the risk of Ebola importation. The motion was presented by Faduyile, who highlighted the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention's assessment of a high risk of Ebola importation into the country.
The Federal Government recently confirmed an Ebola case in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, raising concerns about the potential spread of the virus. This follows a previous imported case in July 2014, which led to an outbreak and tested Nigeria's disease surveillance systems.
Faduyile emphasized that current screening measures are insufficient and could leave the country vulnerable to another public health crisis. He warned that gaps in the existing screening arrangements might allow the virus to enter the nation undetected.
