Florida Proposes Law to Limit Teen Social Media and AI Chatbot Use

KOKO Business | People, Ideas, Markets, Growth | Florida Proposes Law to Limit Teen Social Media and AI Chatbot Use

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has introduced legislation aimed at restricting teenagers' access to social media platforms and AI chatbots. The proposal follows a court's rejection of the state's earlier attempt to compel Meta Platforms to modify Instagram and Facebook for young users.

The Safe Screens Act would impose new responsibilities on app stores, social media companies, and AI chatbot providers. This legislation is part of Florida's ongoing efforts to regulate how digital platforms engage with children.

Under the proposed law, app stores must verify users' ages, and social media platforms would be required to enforce two-hour daily usage limits for teenagers.
