UBA Seeks Restraining Orders Against Vitol Amid Dispute

KOKO Business | People, Ideas, Markets, Growth | UBA Seeks Restraining Orders Against Vitol Amid Dispute

The bank alleged that Vitol improperly released cargoes of petroleum products intended for United Bank for Africa Plc, as stated in the Bills of Lading.

Bode Olanipekun, SAN, representing United Bank for Africa, requested the court to issue interim preservative orders against Vitol and other shippers.

Jose (Mrs.) supported UBA’s application by granting three prayers, which included restraining Vitol S.A. from dissipating assets or dealing with funds up to the disputed amount.

The judge approved Prayers 1–3 specifically against the 2nd Respondent, Vitol S.A., in the ruling.

The legal action was initiated under Order 43 Rule 1 of the Lagos State High Court Civil Procedure Rules 2019 and the Lagos State High Court Practice Direction No.

UBA aims to assert that Vitol SA and the vessel owners are accountable for alleged conversion, misrepresentation, and negligence due to the non-delivery of petroleum products.
