UBA Seeks Jail Term for WEMPCO Directors Over Debt Dispute

United Bank for Africa (UBA) has requested a Lagos court to imprison nine individuals associated with Western Metal Products Co. (WEMPCO) for their alleged involvement in the forced removal of a legal receiver from the company’s Ogun steel plant.
According to a committal notice published on Tuesday, UBA accused the individuals of violating an April 2 court order issued by Judge Akintayo Aluko, a federal high court judge. The notice claims they engaged in 'wilful, deliberate and orchestrated disobedience' of the court's directive.
The bank alleges that the nine individuals used thugs to evict the court-appointed receiver-manager from the steel plant in Magboro-Ibafo, Ogun state. UBA is seeking their imprisonment until they comply with the court's order.
