Ethiopia to Develop EV Charging Network Along Djibouti Corridor

Ethiopia is set to electrify its strategic trade corridor with Djibouti through a multi-million-dollar electric vehicle infrastructure project. The initiative aims to transition freight transport from diesel to electric mobility, focusing on heavy-duty trucks that carry most of the country’s imports and exports.
The Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU) has partnered with three Chinese firms—Huawei Technologies, Beijing Forever Technology, and China Road and Bridge Corporation—to conduct a feasibility study for the EV charging network along the Ethiopia–Djibouti corridor.
EEU Chief Executive Officer Engineer Getu Geremew emphasized the corridor’s critical role in national economic activity, stating that the shift to electric mobility is a strategic necessity for Ethiopia.
