Obeahon Ohiwerei became Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Coronation Merchant Bank in July 2026 after receiving the Central Bank of Nigeria’s no-objection approval. He brings more than three decades of banking experience across corporate and institutional banking, risk management, operations, business transformation and client coverage. His earlier leadership roles include heading UBA Ghana, serving as an executive director at Access Bank and leading Keystone Bank.

Ohiwerei took charge after the merchant bank completed recapitalisation, strengthened governance and continued digitising key processes. The bank’s stated priorities include deeper client relationships, expansion into attractive markets, growth in advisory and capital markets, stronger digital capabilities and disciplined risk management. His leadership profile is closely tied to how a Nigerian merchant bank balances growth with governance, capital strength and service to corporate and institutional clients.
