EAC Seeks World Bank Support for Integration Investments

The East African Community (EAC) is pursuing World Bank backing to transform regional integration commitments into investments that enhance trade, digital development, skills and job creation across member states.
This initiative was discussed during a meeting between EAC Secretary-General Stephen Mbundi and World Bank Vice-President for Eastern and Southern Africa Ndiamé Diop at the 2026 IMF and World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand.
Mr Mbundi emphasized that regional integration should focus not only on common policies but also on ensuring member states have the capacity and investments needed to implement these policies effectively.
Both parties also examined methods to convert regional policies into investments that improve livelihoods, provide young people with labour market skills and increase employment opportunities across the bloc.
Skills development and job creation remain central priorities as the EAC aims to ensure economic integration delivers broader benefits to its expanding population.
