FBR Faces Tax Shortfall in FY27

KOKO Business | People, Ideas, Markets, Growth | FBR Faces Tax Shortfall in FY27

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is encountering its first tax shortfall of the fiscal year 2027. Internal assessments suggest the FBR aims to collect Rs14.3 to Rs14.6 trillion by June 2027, yet a shortfall is anticipated.

According to provisional figures, the FBR collected Rs4.06 trillion in taxes during the July-October period of the current fiscal year, despite setting a relatively low target. This amount, however, still leaves a shortfall of Rs124 billion.

The July-October collection results have drawn attention due to two unusual developments: the government's proposal for a new tax agency, which was later abandoned, and the adverse action against the Inland Revenue Service Officers Association for threatening a strike.
