A former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee warned that unresolved disputes between Pakistan and India could lead to more dangerous confrontations. The warning was made at the second Islamabad Non-Proliferation Conference, organized by the Strategic Vision Institute (SVI).

Retired Gen Zubair Mahmood Hayat emphasized that terminating a crisis without addressing its root causes could set the stage for future, more dangerous conflicts. He specifically mentioned the May 2025 conflict as an example.

The former general highlighted that Pakistan's response to the May 2025 conflict demonstrated its military capabilities and political control. He noted that Pakistan avoided an unlimited war by adopting a calibrated approach.
