Gauteng Aims to Fix R500 and R563 Sinkholes

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport is requesting additional funding from the provincial Treasury to repair sinkholes on the R500 and R563 roads. The funding will also support technical and geotechnical investigations to determine suitable rehabilitation measures.
Preliminary assessments revealed that over 80% of the road surface had collapsed along the R500 section, rendering it highly unsafe. The department is currently in the final stages of selecting a contractor to address the sinkhole on the R563, with a decision anticipated soon.
The province's efforts to address infrastructure challenges have included recent collaborations with taxi leaders to resolve industry issues, highlighting ongoing initiatives to enhance transportation safety and efficiency.
