The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has issued a warning to Nigerians about various cyber-related offences, including unauthorised access to personal devices and online accounts, identity impersonation, cyberbullying, and the sharing of private images, which could lead to legal consequences.

Disu also highlighted the need for financial institutions, fintech operators, and telecommunications companies to address insider threats and improve their internal control systems, emphasizing that the fight against cybercrime must involve accountability and intelligence gathering.

The warnings were made during the opening of the 2026 Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) in Abuja, where Disu stressed the importance of moving from reactive to proactive measures in cybersecurity.
