Nigeria’s Economic Reforms Need to Focus on Jobs and Growth

Oyedele urged Nigeria's economic reforms to prioritize job creation and income growth, emphasizing that the ultimate success of these efforts should be measured by the ability of Nigerians to afford basic needs and secure decent employment.
In a statement on his official X handle, Oyedele highlighted the necessity for reform efforts to yield tangible benefits for households and businesses, ensuring that macroeconomic stability supports inclusive growth rather than being an end goal in itself.
Oyedele pointed to a decline in inflation to 14.63 percent, external reserves of $55 billion, and a projected economic growth rate of 4.3 percent in 2026 as signs of improving economic stability and resilience.
Despite these positive indicators, Oyedele stressed that the focus must shift toward enhancing living conditions, including access to quality healthcare, education, and economic opportunities.
He called for a transformation of reform credibility into investment, which should then lead to job creation and income growth that outpaces inflation.
