Power Supply Chains Face New Test

KOKO Business | People, Ideas, Markets, Growth | Power Supply Chains Face New Test

K-Electric has stated that the current tariff structure does not provide incentives for continued investment in enhancing power supply to Karachi residents, leading to significant uncertainty regarding ongoing and future projects.

The global power sector is transitioning into a phase where electricity availability will depend on both generation capacity and the ability to secure essential equipment, materials, and services for building and maintaining the electricity network.

Long lead times for critical grid equipment such as large power transformers and high-voltage cables can delay projects even when financing and generation capacity are available.

According to the IEA's Building the Future Transmission Grid report, lead times for large power transformers have nearly doubled since 2021, reaching up to four years for the largest units.
