Presidency Disputes Makinde’s NLNG Dividend Claim

KOKO Business | People, Ideas, Markets, Growth | Presidency Disputes Makinde's NLNG Dividend Claim

The presidency has contested Governor Makinde's assertion that each state would receive ₦250bn in NLNG dividends. In a statement released by the State House on Sunday, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, called for Nigerians to ignore the claim, stating that the figures do not match the revenue-sharing formula or NLNG’s dividend payment history.

Makinde reportedly raised the allegation on Friday during the 2027 Budget Stakeholders’ Consultative Engagement at Olola Ogunlana Hall, International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan. During the event, the governor stated that the funds would have allowed his administration to launch projects aimed at expanding Oyo State’s economy.

The governor further alleged that the money would not be released until after the elections, suggesting a potential delay in the distribution of the NLNG dividends.
