SERAP Challenges INEC Over Alleged Electoral Funds Shortfall

KOKO Business | People, Ideas, Markets, Growth | SERAP Challenges INEC Over Alleged Electoral Funds Shortfall

SERAP has filed legal action against INEC, alleging a shortfall of N126b in electoral funds.

Phrank Shaibu, INEC's Director of Strategic Communication, stated that changes in the Electoral Operations Department have raised serious concerns requiring immediate answers from INEC.

INEC is required to explain its decisions, publish the criteria used, and demonstrate that all appointments and redeployments followed proper procedures, were merit-based, and lacked political interference.

Atiku emphasized that no official should be assumed compromised due to ethnicity, background, or political associations.

INEC must provide verifiable assurances of impartiality when political connections or concentrated appointments trigger public suspicion.

The reshaping of sensitive election departments and unresolved questions around major contracts risk increasing suspicions that a failing administration is seeking advantages to retain power.
