Tanzania Eyes Nuclear Power for Energy Diversification

Tanzania is examining nuclear technology to diversify its energy sources and address rising electricity demand. The nation aims to meet a projected 70,000 megawatts of electricity by 2050, with ongoing talks with Rosatom, Russia’s state-owned nuclear energy company.
The government is also focusing on becoming a leading uranium producer in Africa, with a $1 billion uranium project underway to secure resources for potential nuclear energy development.
Tanzania currently relies on its estimated 57 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves for electricity generation. However, the government is seeking additional energy sources to support industrial growth, meet domestic needs, and possibly expand electricity exports.
