Morocco Pushes for Private Investment and Policy Reform at World Bank Meeting

Morocco, representing eight countries, called on the World Bank to speed up private investment mobilization during the 114th Development Committee meeting in Bangkok on October 15. The nation emphasized the need for enhanced risk-sharing mechanisms, domestic capital market development, and improved financing for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.
The Kingdom expressed support for the World Bank’s initiatives to attract private investment but stressed the importance of accelerating the implementation of its three-pillar development strategy. Morocco also highlighted the economic potential of minerals and metals, urging the Bank to tailor its financing tools to the needs of fragile economies and smaller states.
In addition to financing, Morocco advocated for increased representation of developing countries in the World Bank’s decision-making processes, asserting that their priorities should have greater influence on the institution’s policies. The meeting was part of the World Bank and IMF annual gatherings in Bangkok, which took place from October 12 to 18.
