Presidency Disputes Makinde’s NLNG Dividend Claim

KOKO Business | People, Ideas, Markets, Growth | Presidency Disputes Makinde's NLNG Dividend Claim

The Presidency has dismissed claims by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde that the Federal Government is withholding N250bn in Nigeria LNG Limited dividends for each state until after the 2027 elections. The claim was described as false in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The Presidency stated that the N250bn figure would exceed the company’s entire lifetime payout to the Federation. Onanuga further noted that allocating N250bn for each of the 36 states would total N9.0trn, excluding the Federal Government, the Federal Capital Territory, and the 774 local councils.

The Presidency urged Nigerians to disregard Makinde’s claim, emphasizing that the assertion lacks factual basis. The statement highlights the disagreement over the financial allocation of NLNG dividends among states.
