Malaysia Dissolves Opposition Coalition Ahead of Elections

Malaysia's authorities have revoked the registration of the main opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional (PN), citing a dispute between its constituent parties. This action, taken on October 20, undermines the bloc's ability to run unified elections, as its component parties can no longer contest under a common banner.
The dissolution of PN follows internal conflicts between PAS and Bersatu, key members of the coalition. This move weakens the opposition ahead of upcoming elections, which are expected to take place in the coming months.
In addition to the national elections, Malaysia's Melaka state is set to hold a regional vote on November 14, marking another test for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim following recent setbacks in other regional polls.
