KOKO Business | People, Ideas, Markets, Growth | LPG Prices Surge to Rs580/kg Amid Gas Shortages

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices in Hyderabad have reached Rs580 per kilogram due to ongoing natural gas shortages. This surge has left consumers paying nearly double the official rate, which is set at Rs279.34 per kilogram by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

Retailers in the city are charging between Rs550 and Rs580 per kilogram, significantly increasing the financial strain on households. Daily demand for LPG has surpassed 50 tonnes as residents turn to alternative sources.

Residents have taken to the streets, with women protesting prolonged gas outages. The situation has led to allegations of profiteering and black marketing, exacerbating the crisis.
