Adviser Proposes Private Energy Sector Control

An adviser has proposed private control of Pakistan's energy sector, emphasizing the need for affordable and reliable energy supplies. This call was made during the CEO Summit Islamabad 2026, organized by CEO Club Pakistan, where high power costs were identified as a key challenge to domestic industry competitiveness.
The adviser introduced a framework named TRUST, which outlines reforms targeting sectors where Pakistan has competitive strengths. This includes agriculture, textiles, and IT, with energy, taxation, and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) listed as priority areas for reform.
In addition to energy reforms, the adviser highlighted the need for agricultural development, focusing on improving crop yields, storage, and value-added exports. This builds on the gains of the Green Revolution of the 1960s, aiming to modernize the sector through targeted investments.
