Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe opened the 13th World Potato Congress, which is taking place in Kenya from October 26 to 30. The event has attracted over 1,000 delegates from 67 countries, surpassing the initial goal of 600 participants from 60 countries.

This congress marks the first time the event is held in Sub-Saharan Africa, offering Kenya an opportunity to draw investment and partnerships in potato research, certified seed production, mechanisation, storage, and value addition.

Kagwe emphasized the need for investors to expand potato processing and replace imported potato products with locally made alternatives, while also utilizing idle public land for commercial farming.
