Enugu Assembly Approves State Police Bill

The Enugu State House of Assembly has passed a bill to amend the 1999 constitution, aiming to establish state police forces. The alteration bill was approved as part of broader efforts to modify the national constitution to create a legal framework for state-level policing.
Hon. Chima Obieze, representing Ezeagu state constituency, supported the bill, calling it a transformative measure that aligns with the current needs of the state. He emphasized that the bill would decentralize Nigeria's policing structure, enhancing the protection of lives and property.
Obieze expressed confidence that decentralizing the country's policing system would improve security and allow state police to better address local threats and community challenges.
