Enugu State Security Official Clarifies NDC Airport and Secretariat Incidents

Chidiebere Onyia stated that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) experienced incidents at Akanu Ibiam International Airport and its Enugu state secretariat on Saturday, as reported during his press conference at Government House, Enugu, on Sunday.

Onyia confirmed that the Enugu State Police Command’s statement aligned with the state government’s account of the events.

The Security Service Group (SSG) reported that a violent clash occurred at the NDC state secretariat in the GRA area of Enugu, with police investigating the shooting incident.

A 43-year-old man named Ifeanyi Nworie was shot and taken to Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Park Lane, where he was stabilized before being transferred to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu.

Onyia denied claims that the Governor’s Chief Security Officer was present at the NDC secretariat during the shooting, stating the official was with Governor Peter Mbah at the Teachers Grassroots Movement rally at Okpara Square, Enugu, at the time of the incident.

Onyia emphasized that the administration’s goal to develop Enugu into a $30 billion economy and attract investment, business, tourism, and living opportunities required sustained peace and security.
