In 2027, INEC Chairman, Prof Joash Amupitan, tasked traditional rulers in the South East with ensuring peaceful conduct of the general elections.

Amupitan delivered this message during INEC's National Zonal Physical Assessment Tour in the South-East, which is part of the Commission's comprehensive preparations for the 2027 general election.

The Chairman, accompanied by National Commissioners and senior management officials, emphasized that the tour commenced in this zone with appropriate recognition of its traditional institutions.

Amupitan further noted that the Commission had consistently prioritized direct consultation with prominent traditional rulers across all geopolitical zones previously visited.

He elaborated that the Commission has established direct engagement with senior traditional rulers as a core priority, acknowledging their role as fundamental pillars of community peace, civic participation, and social cohesion.
