The United States government has charged a Kenyan citizen and five others in connection with an alleged cryptocurrency investment fraud scheme targeting American nationals. The Department of Justice accused the suspects of engaging in a scam that involved fake online relationships and fraudulent non-fungible token (NFT) investments.

According to the State Department, the suspects are linked to criminal networks in Southeast Asia and China, with the scheme allegedly operated from scam compounds in Madagascar since early 2025.

The charges were announced by Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro, who stated that the actions were taken in coordination with interagency partners to secure America against cyber and cryptocurrency investment scams by Transnational Criminal Organisations (TCOs).
