NELFUND Clarifies Student Loan Access Is Voluntary

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has confirmed that accessing its student loan scheme is voluntary and not mandatory for students in Nigerian tertiary institutions. This clarification was issued in a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to the statement, NELFUND aims to eliminate financial barriers to education and ensure equal access to learning opportunities for eligible Nigerian students. The Fund emphasized that financial constraints should not prevent students from pursuing higher education.

The statement, signed by Mrs Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director of Strategic Communications, advised students to assess their individual financial needs before deciding to apply for the loan. It stressed that the decision should be based on personal circumstances and genuine need for assistance.
